Introduction

Over the last two decades, we have seen an ever-increasing threat to the physical and financial well being of both public and business institutions, their employees and customers. Despite the fact that political, commercial and criminal threats are becoming increasingly menacing and sophisticated, it is an unfortunate fact that most organizations will tend either to ignore the problems altogether or to maintain security systems based on yesterday's methods and unsuitable to handle tomorrow's threats.

Crime has many names and assumes different identities and organizational structures, but one clear unmistakable trend emerges: criminal activities and terrorism will continue to be used by numerous groups in different parts of the world to further their goals and interests.

Time and time again, it has been shown that incidents could have been minimized or prevented had the security systems been updated and upgraded. A company's security should reflect the continuing political and economic changes within the organization, with expanding activities, new products, additional locations and enlarged work forces.

It is the responsibility of every company to determine if its security systems meet the needs of today and those of the future.
